Fun activities for kids!

With everyone being at home we thought this would be a great opportunity to share some fun learning activities for kids! Below is a collection of archives based activities for families to do together.

This archives themed word search is the perfect way to teach kids what kinds of items can be found in an archive as well as related words. There are 21 words in total, good luck!

Crossword Puzzle

This one is a little more difficult and may need a parents assistance! All answers can be found on the Ottawa Jewish Archives Facebook page. See how well you know the history of Ottawa’s Jewish community and archives.

Create your Family Tree

A great starter for young historians! Kids can fill out their family tree with names and then colour it afterwards. If you’re really feeling like a historian, figure out everyone’s birth date!

Recording Family History

Once your family tree is in order, why not interview your family members about their life? We’ve provided some starter questions but feel free to come up with your own! You never know what you’re going to learn.

If the photograph above is giving you trouble we’ve also included the word doc here for printing!

Lets keep a Journal!

A diary or journal can tell a historian SO much about a person and the time they were living in. It can be a window to the past. Below is an activity sheet where kids can design their own journal cover. You can make it as colourful or personalized as you want. Be creative!

Tell us about your day

Now that you’ve designed your journal cover, tell us a little bit about your day!

If the photograph above is giving you trouble we’ve also included the word doc here for printing!
